“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
— Psalm 34:18
Reflection
The book of Psalms has a way of speaking to real life—the kind of life that’s messy, painful, and sometimes overwhelming.
This verse doesn’t pretend everything is okay. It acknowledges something important: there are moments when hearts break and spirits feel crushed.
What stands out to me is that God doesn’t keep His distance in those moments.
He draws near.
God doesn’t wait for us to be strong before showing up. He meets us right in the middle of our weakness, confusion, and hurt. When life feels heavy and words are hard to find, His presence is already there.
Being brokenhearted doesn’t mean you’ve failed. It means you’ve been human. And Scripture reminds us that God is closest not when we have it all together—but when we don’t.
Sometimes healing doesn’t come instantly. Sometimes it comes quietly, through comfort, strength to keep going, and the reminder that we’re not walking alone.
Takeaway
If today feels heavy, know this:
God is near.
He sees your heart.
He hasn’t forgotten you.
You don’t have to be strong today—you just have to be honest.
Prayer
Lord,
Thank You for being near when my heart feels heavy.
Meet me in the places where I feel broken and worn down.
Remind me that I am not alone and that You are still at work in my life.
Give me strength for today and peace for this moment.
Amen.
