Joy That Doesn’t Depend on Stuff

Scripture:
“Blessed are those who live in Your house; they are always praising You.”
— Psalm 84:4

Devotional

It’s easy to let my joy rise and fall with what I have—or what I don’t have. Some days I’m fine… and other days I notice what other people own, what they’ve accomplished, how “easy” their life looks, and my mind starts measuring my life against theirs.

But envy is a thief. It steals peace by convincing me I’m missing out.

The truth is, no amount of material things can give a satisfied heart. They might distract me for a while, but they can’t heal what’s deep inside. They can’t replace purpose. They can’t give steady hope. Only God can.

Real joy is found close to the Lord—when my heart stays connected to Him, when I worship instead of worry, when I choose gratitude instead of comparison. God has already been faithful to me. He has protected me, provided for me, and carried me through seasons that could’ve broken me.

So today I’m choosing to focus on the blessings I’ve been given, not the things I wish I had. I want the kind of joy that lasts—joy that comes from God’s presence, not my possessions.

Prayer

Lord, keep my heart close to You. When I start comparing my life to others, pull me back to what’s true. Teach me to be grateful, content, and grounded in Your presence. Thank You for the ways You’ve provided for me and cared for me. Fill me with joy that can’t be taken away. Amen.
