As we enter the month of June, we take the opportunity to come together and highlight the importance of addressing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Various traumatic events, including exposure to war, physical, sexual, or verbal assault, and accidents, can trigger this debilitating condition. The symptoms of PTSD are numerous and can include depression, anxiety, nightmares, paranoia, insomnia, and disturbing thoughts. While some individuals may experience resolution of symptoms within a few days, weeks, or months, others may require a more extended period for recovery. It is crucial to acknowledge that PTSD is a highly treatable condition that can significantly improve with appropriate mental health support. Unfortunately, the stigma surrounding mental health issues often leads individuals to ignore the problem, and many are unaware of the available resources. The awareness campaigns during National PTSD Awareness Month aim to educate the public and reduce the stigma associated with this mental disorder, ultimately helping those who are struggling with PTSD to receive the care and support they need.
